Welcome to Open Strings June 20th - 29th 2009

OPEN STRINGS 2009 is a cello masterclass which aims to stimulate and inspire the progress of young striving professionals and academy students. The masterclass takes place at the Institute of Music at the University of Aarhus, Denmark.
Aarhus is one of Scandinavia’s oldest cities and the second biggest city in Denmark. The city’s heart consists of a cozy centre with many cafés as well as green areas and the sea is never far away.
Students will be accommodated in a youth hostel in the middle of the “Riis Skov” beech woods near the center of Aarhus, five hundred meters from the sea.

OPEN STRING 2009 will comprise four teachers as well as an accompanist.
During the course students will receive 7-8 lessons in an open masterclass forum. Each student will be taught by all four teachers and is therefore expected to prepare a minimum of four different pieces or movements for the masterclass.
Depending on availability students in need of piano accompaniment can work with the accompanist.
Interested students can participate in a Cello Ensemble led by prof. Valter Despalj.

What makes Open Strings Masterclass unique is the number of lessons that each student receives. Students are chosen based on a demo cd and accepted students will automatically receive a scholarship which covers the tuition. Hence the relatively low course price which covers the students accommodation etc.

The course includes both student and teacher concerts.
